Set in a beautiful, peaceful location, overlooking Oban Bay, the Isles of Kerrera, Lismore, Mull and the sound of Kerrera, this beautiful Victorian building is now a guest house.
the house
Originally built as a summer residence by the Duke of Argyll in 1870, Dungallan Country House commands a tranquil and secluded location, yet only a short 10 minute walk into Oban town centre. Oban offers a great range of restaurants, café’s and shops.
the current owners
The owner and management couple brought the house through a 2 stage, extensive refurbishment. Every area of Dungallan was carefully brought back to its previous grand state using a range of sympathetic tones, materials and styles. Modern touches expected by guests, such as Smart TV’s, silent mini fridges and embroidered fluffy bathrobes, were carefully married with influences reminiscent of its Victorian era reflected in areas such as the bathroom tiles, mirrors, mirror lights and paint colours.
The gardens retained its privacy and spectacular views, so favoured by guests, with the welcome addition of a large, wraparound patio. Comfortable seating and parasols assured guests the perfect spot to enjoy both the sun and breath-taking sunsets with the soothing fountain, based on the famous Eton College fountain, completing the scene.
The cosy Dungallan Lounge Bar gives guests a relaxing spot to sample a range of over 180 single malt whiskies from around the world, an expanding range of Scottish island gins in addition to vodka’s and rums. We individually select a range of the finest wine, prosecco and Champagne from our independently owned and run wine importer. Guests can also relax with complimentary teas and coffees.
