Welcome to Dungallan Country House
If your next break conjures up images of being well looked after in an oasis of calm, having a glass of champagne, whisky or G&T in peaceful surroundings with the most breath-taking views, a short walk to amenities and on the doorstep of Scottish island hopping, then consider a stay with us. It’s clear to see why the Duke of Argyll picked this particular spot to build Dungallan Country House as his summer residence in 1870
Dungallan’s owner embarked on an extensive renovation in early 2022 to sympathetically reinstate some well-deserved sumptuous, understated charm and glamour. In addition to the bedroom refurbishment, three new suites were also created with the addition of opulent rolltop baths and underfloor heating. In the main house, the bar, restaurant and library were also treated to the tasteful renovation experience. This included a wall to wall bookcase in the library, the perfect spot to relax after a long day, tastefully upholstered comfortable and inviting seating in the bar to enjoy a tipple of your choice and the fabulous restaurant with breath-taking views over Oban Bay and the hills beyond.
The Gaelic translation of Oban is little bay and you will discover that the enviable position of Dungallan Country House yields full advantage of this Scottish gem.
Our Instagram page has documented the refurbishment from the first day through to completion. For full photos and narrative, please visit our page at @dungallancountryhouseoban
Directions to Dungallan Country House
When driving on Gallanach Road, you will see the ferry terminal entrance on your right; continue past this and you will come to a sharp, narrow bend in the road. Just around this bend on the left hand side, you will see the large white Dungallan Country House sign at the bottom of our driveway.
Simon and Kirsty were exceptional. This is the most beautiful property with an amazing location and nothing was ever a problem for them. They kindly allowed me to leave my car for a few days whilst I went off (space permitting) to do a charity event and when I arrived back a little early a few days later they made me very welcome and at home whilst my room was prepared. This will always be my preferred place to stay the next time I am in Oban. The cooked breakfast was a 10/10 and set me up for the day! Thank you for making my visit so enjoyable.
Beautiful quality accommodation with unrivalled views.
A beautiful, newly refurbished and opened country house that oozes style and quality with views second to none in Oban… The 2 days of sunshine did also really help. Simon and Kirsty were great hosts and I am sure Dungallan will prosper under their management.
10/10 Excellent anniversary stay at the Dungallan
The hotel has been refurbished to an excellent standard, we were really lucky to stay in the Duke of Argyll suite and it was fantastic. The bathroom in particular was stunning, Kirsty and Simon are so friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. The bar was well stocked and the outside sitting area and view is amazing, we were lucky to get one sunny day, so we got to enjoy it. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice and I would highly recommend the pancake stack - delicious. It's roughly a 15/20 walk into town which is no big deal and the hotel's position gives amazing views. All in all we had a fantastic weekend celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and Dungallan Country House and Kirsty and Simon certainly contributed to that.
10/10 So hospitable
Simon, Kirsty and the rest of the staff could not have been more hospitable. They really want you to have a great stay. Recently refurbished to very high standard in excellent taste. A lovely old building in great location with lovely views. Was once the home of the Duke of Argyl so has an interesting history.
10/10 Highly Recommended...
We noticed the amazing reviews for Dungallan Country House since their renovations were completed and decided to give it a shot. Needless to say this was an amazing decision. The property looks stunning, is perfectly situated and the staff were fantastic. We spent our time sitting in the gorgeous Library, reading and soaking up the sun. We also loved the breakfast. The best thing about this hotel though is you'll have no trouble parking - you won't get this at other hotels in Oban. Highly recommended!!
What an amazing place! The location is out of this world, with glorious panoramic views across Oban Bay and out to sea. Fabulous terrace and bar to enjoy the sunset. Great selection of gins and whiskies. Simon and Kirsty are the perfect hosts. The Dungallan suite is stunning and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was perfectly cooked and a great selection to chose from. We will definitely be back.
There is absolutely nothing not to like about this hotel!! Real shame we could only stay one night.
Recommended for the luxurious refurbishment and the friendly efficiency of the staff.
We spent 3 nights at the Dungallan Country House hotel at the beginning of June 2022 just after they reopened after refurbishment. We thought it was a risk because the refurbishment might not be completed. So on arrival we were pleased that the refurbishment had finished and had clearly been done to a very high standard. We had taken a double room with Seaview and the furnishings were luxurious and the views over Oban Bay were wonderful. Breakfast was excellent, the bar was well stocked and the managers Simon and Kirsty and all the staff were helpful and friendly.
Everything! Location, accommodations, breakfast, but nothing beats the staff here. Treated like the Laird of the Castle.
10/10 Everything was super, couldn't fault it!
Kirsty and Simon were excellent hosts. The location of the hotel was ideal just 10 minutes walk into the centre of Oban, We stayed for five nights. All areas of the hotel were exceptionally clean and it was obvious that the whole building had recently been refurbished to a very high standard, The library was a lovely room to relax in with a pleasant view of the garden which is well tended and nice place to relax in on a sunny day. The bar was very well stocked, again with great views this time over the bay. Breakfast was good with a wide choice and staff were very attentive. When Kirsty and Simon realised that it was our wedding anniversary they gave us a complimentary bottle of fizz! Nothing was too much trouble, arranging restaurant reservations and lifts into town were part of the service. A truly great hotel with super hosts, we would recommend it without reservation.
